FLIR + UAV = Death From Above
ArmA II News

First video details one of the single player missions in Operation Arrowhead’s full-size campaign mode. Piloting an AH-64D Apache, the demonstrator safely hides his helicopter within firing range of the targets before switching controls to remotely pilot a Little Bird helicopter UAV equipped with FLIR vision. Using the drone’s immensely powerful camera to zoom in on the objective from a safe distance, designate targets and even initiate Hellfire missile launches from the player’s own Apache, all without being detected or even seen by the enemy.

A Tour Of The Handheld Armoury

A2OA - Shooting Range (ingame video) from ARMA2official on Vimeo.

This second video introduces Operation Arrowhead‘s newly-added tutorial missions, which are designed to allow players of all experience levels to train with the various weapons and vehicles featured in the massive standalone expansion. The video’s narration provides invaluable insight and advice while the player is taught how to use handheld weapons, grenade launchers and Javelin portable missiles, along with basic training in the use of sniper rifles.

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead will be released exclusively for PC on 29th June 2010.

ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead - Alliance Forces Deploy
ArmA II News

The first instalment in the series of ingame videos, introduces the factions in ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead, forthcoming standalone expansion pack to ARMA 2.

To avoid any misunderstanding - the helicopter without pilot really exists Smile
It's not a bug - it's one of the UAVs and players will have the possibility to use them in game.

The future of US Army helicopters: pilots optional
General News

Five years ago, the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter got a digital cockpit and fly-by-wire controls. Starting in 2011, the US Army would like it to perform missions without a pilot at the helm. In a 140-page "Unmanned Aircraft Systems Roadmap" released earlier this month, the Armed Forces reveal that the UH-60, AH-64, CH-47 and OH-58D whirlybirds will all be part of a new aircraft category called Optionally Piloted Vehicles (OPV) -- meaning in future, the flick of a switch will turn them into giant UAVs. If an unmanned Apache gunship makes your boots quake, you're not alone, but you won't truly have reason to fear until 2025. That's when the government estimates half of all Army aircraft will be OPV, and those bots will learn the more deadly behaviors, like swarming. Sikorsky says the unmanned UH-60M will fly later this year.

Left 4 Dead 2 'The Passing' DLC coming next week
Left 4 Dead News

Valve has announced that upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 DLC The Passing will arrive sometime next week.

If you look at the screen released behind Nick with a driver you can see a red-coated figure, what appears to be Zoey from L4D, above and in the distance.

The Xbox 360 version of the DLC is presumed to release alongside the PC version next week matching past releases with the series.

If you want even more speculation I'd take an educated guess of either Tuesday April 20 or Thursday April 22 as the landing date.

From Steam's community annoucnements:

"When is "The Passing" coming out? Well... if it was coming out next week we would say right here -

Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing is coming out next week and we will be updating the blog next week with more news on the release. There you go."

Project Reality turn their hands to ArmA 2.
ArmA II News

The award-winning Project Reality Studios team are proud to announce that the official first release of v0.1 of the Project Reality ArmA2 Mini-Mod will be coming very soon. Although we are now moving into the Beta Testing stage, we think the time is right to inform the community of what will be coming to you very shortly. Project Reality will enter the ArmA2 battlefield for the first time!

Our main aim for PR:ArmA2 is:

"To create a realistic and immersive modification for ArmA2, which focuses on encouraging teamwork through gameplay"

As with Project Reality's original conception on the Refractor 2 engine, at this stage PR:ArmA2 should be classed as a Mini-Mod; we have to start somewhere! Don't be fooled though, this release will by no means disappoint, due to the large number of high quality art assets already created by the Project Reality Team, and the considerable experience of the PR:ArmA2 Development Team on the Real Virtuality 3 engine!

PR:ArmA2 will exist as a standalone modification. It will remain self contained, self developing and not rely on or use externally held add ons from other sources where at all possible. What that means to the player is that it will be a 'one stop shop' as an installation package, with no requirement for additional multiple add on packs.

We also want to emphasis we are not in direct competition with any of the other great mods out there. However as a team we want to see what we can now do with the Real Virtuality 3 engine, as well as the continued full scale continued development of PR for Battlefield2. We are not in any way changing engines. We have simply expanded the team's reach into ArmA2 with new developers. It is not PR2, nor are we ceasing PR:BF2 development.
